SANTA MARIA — The Sierra Pacific girls basketball team is off to a good start in the St. Joseph/Righetti Winter tournament.

The Lady Bears took down San Luis Obispo 50-43 on Thursday and were led by Haley Bettencourt’s 21 points.

Sierra Pacific (6-1) led 19-15 at halftime and was able to stretch its lead to double digits by outscoring SLO 21-9 in the third quarter. The Tigers responded by outscoring Sierra Pacific 19-10 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Golden Bears took the victory.

Alana Roberts pitched in seven points followed by Kalea Bush’s six and Cristina Avila and Janae Tolbert each scored five points.

Sierra Pacific faced Nipomo High on Friday and go up against host Righetti High today at 9 a.m. and Arroyo Grande at 1:30 p.m. in a doubleheader.

The winter tournament was put together after the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions was cancelled due to the wildfires in Southern California.
