FRESNO — The Sierra Pacific Lady Bears ended on a bittersweet note at the Hoover Classic tournament over the weekend.

They defeated Sierra High in a tight contest 57-54 to make it to the Hoover Classic championship game on Saturday.

In the game against Sierra High, the Golden Bears built a 12-point lead after the first quarter and carried that into halftime. But Sierra High doubled up Sierra Pacific (24-12) in the third quarter to even it at 46 heading into the fourth quarter.

Again, Sierra Pacific would hold on late and was led by Haley Bettencourt with 16 points. Alana Roberts had 12 points and Janae Tolbert added 11 points in the victory.

The championship game was a different story. Sierra Pacific trailed from the beginning and dug themselves a 32-19 hole at halftime.

“We were out of sync, shot very poorly, had way too many turnovers, in addition to not getting back on defense,” Sierra Pacific coach Amy Bush said.

Roberts had a team-high 10 points and Kalea Bush and Tolbert had six points apiece. It was also the team’s first loss of the season.
