Hanford West vs. East Bakersfield
HANFORD — Hanford West’s bid for a CIF Central Section championship began with a 3-0 victory over 13-seed East Bakersfield on Thursday.
The Division III opening-round playoff game had Madison Sousa lead her team with nine kills, while adding four aces, four digs and an assist. Shelby Perez had five kills, four aces and six digs. As a team, the 4-seeded Huskies had 23 kills on the night and 15 aces with Laura Denham having a team-high five.
The Huskies won 25-20, 25-15, 27-25 to move on to the quarterfinals where they’ll face 5-seed Sierra (15-11, 6-4 NSL). Sierra finished third in the North Sequoia League and defeated 12-seed Edison in the opening round, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-15).
Hanford West (25-11, 6-6 WYL) will host the quarterfinal match on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Sierra Pacific vs. Avenal
HANFORD — The Sierra Pacific girls volleyball team had no trouble dispatching Avenal 3-0 on Thursday and moving on to the quarterfinals.
Sierra Pacific (12-12, 6-4 ESL) hosted the CIF Central Section Division V opening-round match and were led by Kylie Walker and Hailey Leslie. Walker and Leslie each had 11 kills and only six attack errors between each other.
The Golden Bears also had nine aces and freshman Amie Walker had 37 assists on the night. Sierra Pacific lived up to its 3-seed billing and won the three sets 25-22, 25-17, 25-11.
They’ll face Wasco (12-15-1, 5-7 SSL) who finished tied for fourth in the South Sequoia League. The 6-seed defeated Big Pine in the first round 3-0.
Sierra Pacific will host the match on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
