INDIANA, PENNSYLVANIA - Selma High School wrestler Richard Figueroa defeated Joey Cruz to win the 106-pound high school division at the 2018 FloNationals that took place at the Kovalchick Center on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus on March 6-8.
Figuera won in a 3-2 decision over Cruz, who is listed from Clovis. The Selma standout went undefeated with a 5-0 record in the national tournament.
In March, Figueroa won his first CIF State wrestling title in the 106-pound weight class as a freshman after defeating Carlos Negrete of Clovis North at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.
SELMA - The Selma softball team lost on the road to Madera High School in a 4-0 defeat on April 3.
After the loss, the Bears’ record dropped to 5-5 overall.
Selma started Central Sequoia League play against Exeter on the road on April 10 (after press time). The Bears will have its home opener against Immanuel on April 12 that is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
SELMA - The Selma boys tennis team drop it’s Central Sequoia League matchup to Immanuel in a 6-3 loss on April 4.
Currently, Selma is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in CSL play.
Simran Bains and Fidel Felix were the only Selma members to win its singles match. Bains defeated Immanuel’s Jonah Gomez 2-1 (7-5, 2-6, 10-7) and Felix defeated Jonathan Regies in a 2-1tiebreaker (6-4,7-6, 7-4).
Two days prior against Exeter, the Bears were victorious 8-1.
Simran and Raj Bains were both victorious in sweeping their singles matches. Raj Bains beat Adrian Aldaz (6-3, 6-4) and Simran Bains defeated Sergio Verdugo (6-0, 6-3). Mahtab Gill and Felix were also victorious against the Monarchs.
Gill defeated Alex Garcia in a 2-2 tiebreaker (5-7, 7-6, 7-3, 10-7) and Felix won 2-1 over Alex Castro (6-4, 4-6, 10-3).
Selma played at Kingsburg on April 10 (after press time) and are scheduled in a matchup against Immanuel on the road on April 12. After, the Bears will also go head-to-head on the court against Central Valley Christian at home on April 13.
DINUBA - The Kingsburg boys and girls swim teams defeated Dinuba High School in a road Central Sequoia League meet on the road on April 4.
The girls varsity squad was victorious 132-25 and the boys were as dominant in a 134-16 score.
On the girls side, a Kingsburg was represented in placed first in 11 of 12 varsity events. The only event a Viking swimmer didn’t place in the top 2 was in the 100-yard freestyle race.
As for the boys, Kingsburg had a swimmer place first in 10 of the 11 varsity events. The 50-yard freestyle was the only event that a Viking wasn’t in first place.
For both swim teams, the boys and girls will host its final home swim meet of the season against Central Valley Christian on April 11 at 4 p.m. Three days later, the swim teams will compete in the Sue Renna Sprint Meet at Sunnyside High School.
