Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year! We are looking forward to this being our best year ever, in the Selma Unified School District.

Our teachers and staff have spent the summer engaging in professional learning opportunities, working on their curriculum and designing lessons that motivate and engage our students in the learning process. Our Back to School Kickoff on August 11 filled all staff with excitement and commitment to beginning another important chapter in your child’s academic journey, in preparation for College and Career success.

This past year, we have had many successes, beginning with an increase in the number of students graduating from high school. We are pleased to share that Selma High School boasts an increase in graduation rate to 93.0 %, which is above the State rate of 82.3%. Additionally, we are proud to share that the Class of 2016 had the highest number of Valedictorians (29) in Selma High School history. We are pleased that 83% of the class will continue their studies by attending a 2 or 4 year college or training program, while other students have decided to join in military service to our Country, or the work force.

Selma Unified supports the development of the whole child, and along with excellence in Academics, encourages Athletics and Co-Curricular Activities. With this in mind, we celebrate the dedication and hard work of our outstanding Middle and High School Band and Colorguard in having received several First Place and Excellence Awards. We also celebrate our Girls Wrestling Team making history as the Valley and State Champions, our Boys Tennis League as Valley Champions and the Selma High School Girls Tennis, and Softball Teams as Central Sequoia League Champs. We are strong believers in the discipline and elements of character development that our Co-Curricular activities provide.

We are extremely proud of our success, and will continue Moving Forward…...Full STEAM Ahead, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering Arts/Ag, and Math with continued goals for increasing academic achievement to ensure the success of all learners. Again, I say welcome back, and as your Superintendent, I appreciate the opportunity to serve your child, and family.  Let’s work together to make this an amazing year. We are indeed #SelmaInAction.

                                                              Superintendent Tanya Fisher
