Selma JV’s blank Washington Union

The Selma High junior varsity football team defeated Washington Union 14-0 on Aug. 31.

Louie Armendarez had a nine-yard TD run and Aaron Blancas had a 59-yard TD catch from Eddie Avalos. Aaron Moreno rushed six times for 41 yards for Selma as the Bears out-gained Washington 122-49. Chris Rosas led Selma with five tackles.

Vikings fall to Clovis

The Kingsburg girls golf team fell to Clovis 86-80 on Aug. 31. Senior Korinne Henslee posted a team-high 23 points in the stableford format.

“She has shown much improvement and I’m excited to see how she does the remainder of the year,” Vikings coach Todd Brown said.

Bear freshmen roll

The Selma freshmen football team routed Washington Union 33-0 on Aug. 30.

Jeremiah Herrera rushed 13 times for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Also for the Bears, Ramon Gonzalez rushed seven times for 79 yards. Joseph Ramirez scored on a 29-yard pass from Jericho Falcon and German Rincon scored on a five-yard run.

Selma out-gained Washington 337-41 and had 17 first downs to three for its opponents. Rincon, Jon Ambrose and Josh Nunez all had three tackles for Selma.

Kingsburg boys polo team wins

Satoshi Shinkawa scored six goals and Jake Goodbar added four to lead the Kingsburg boys water polo team to a 16-5 win against Mt. Whitney on Aug. 29.

Also for Kingsburg, Cristian Valenzuela had two goals and Alex Meyer, Garrett Peck, Conor Righetti and Quintin Davis one apiece.

Sierra sweeps Selma volleyball

The Selma volleyball team lost to Sierra 3-0 on Aug. 29. The scores were 25-9, 25-9, 25-21.

Caitlyn Hansen had five kills for Selma, Caylin Lopez contributed nine assists and Genesis Rodriguez chipped in with 13 digs. The loss dropped Selma to 2-1 at the time.

Kingsburg downs Mt. Whitney

The Kingsburg volleyball team downed Mt. Whitney 3-0 on Aug. 29. Makena Taylor and Toni Ramirez led Mt. Whitney with five kills each. Kingsburg also defeated Fowler 3-0 on Aug. 31. The scores were 25-10, 25-13, 25-9.

Viking girls polo victorious

The Kingsburg girls water polo defeated Mt. Whitney 19-6 on Aug. 29.

The Vikings then competed in the Tulare Union tourney and beat Lemoore 14-1, downed Exeter 9-1, lost to Golden West 10-4 and Redwood 10-2, topped Tulare Union 8-4 and Mt. Whitney 19-6. Further details were not available.
