SELMA – Selma High Academic Decathlon member Kevin Garcia was recognized with the Fresno County Office of Education Superintendent’s Superstar Award for February 2018. Garcia and the Selma High Academic Decathlon coaches were also given a Bear Nation Shout Out for their accomplishments this year.

Garcia was chosen from more than 100,000 students in the county for this award. He was honored at the Fresno County Office of Education’s monthly Board meeting by Superintendent Jim Yovino. Garcia presented his award-winning Academic Decathlon speech to the County Board and audience in attendance. Academic Decathlon lead coach Grace Patterson also spoke about Garcia and his talents.

“Thank you to Kevin Garcia for his message shared with over 1,000 students and adults last week at the Academic Decathlon awards ceremony,” Principal Mark Babiarz said. “Kevin’s message of inclusion in America for all individuals in this country speaks to an issue that all politicians need to listen to and reflect on as they make decisions.”
