While living in Kingsburg, they joined the Kingsburg First Baptist Church where Wally was a deacon and worked with the Boys Brigade. He also volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts organization.

Wally and his family later moved to Dinuba where he was an active member in the Dinuba First Baptist Church. He served as the church's financial secretary for five years. He was also a member of the Dinuba Kiwanis Club, in which he held every office including president. He valued time with his family, traveling, and working on projects around his home.
