Russell Alan Hammer
August 7, 1955 - November 27, 2017
A Celebration of Life memorial service for Russ Hammer will be December 27 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on 340 N. Irwin Street, Hanford. Four years ago he was diagnosed with Parkinson disease and died suddenly of pulmonary fibrosis in San Luis Obispo on November 27, 2017.
Russ was raised in Hanford and went to Kit Carson Elementary School and graduated from Hanford High School. He moved to Chico after graduating from College of the Sequoias to complete his Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
After a stint in the Peace Corps in Micronesia he returned to start “The Flower Cart” floral business in Chico which he owned for many years. After, he went into real estate and then semi-retired serving as a camp hosts and writing at Shaver Lake. At the time of his death he and his wife Margo Benson Hammer were living in Morro Bay.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two grown sons, Austin Hammer of New York and Spencer Hammer of San Luis Obispo. His deceased parents Don and Jane Hammer. Siblings are Sally (Miguel) Munoz and Susan Gonzalez both of Hanford.
A niece and nephews are Alia Munoz, Zachary Munoz (Visalia), Dane Gonzalez (Sacramento), Dylan Gonzalez and Devin Gonzalez both of Hanford.
