ROBERT (“BOB”) LOREN BRINEY
May 19, 1930-March 4, 2018
It is with a heavy heart that the family of Bob Briney, former Director of the ASC (USDA) Office in Fresno, announces his passing at age 87 on March 4, 2018.
Bob was born on May 19, 1930, in Torrance, California and moved with his family to San Pedro when he was three. In 1946, Bob and his parents Emma Miller Briney and Perry Glenn Briney moved to a farm south of Armona. Bob graduated from Hanford High in 1948 and then from College of the Sequoias in 1950.
Bob and his former wife, Pat Smith, established a home and raised three children in Armona. It was at that time that Bob began his 45 year long and fulfilling career with the United States Department of Agriculture. He served Kings County farmers for many years, and then served Fresno County until retirement in1999. He and his current wife, Leslie, established their home in Fresno more than 40 years ago.
Bob was involved in civic and regional activities for most of his adult life. He was elected to the Armona Union School Board, was active in the Armona Lions, served as a trustee of the Kings Rehab Center, and was appointed by Governor Deukmejian to the Area 8 Board for the Central Valley Regional Center. Bob even appeared on an episode of 60 Minutes!
During his 40 year marriage to Leslie, Bob discovered and embraced his Jewish heritage; he then joined Congregation Beth Jacob. Bob's observances reflected his personal qualities of integrity, patience, love, and brought peace and fulfillment throughout his lifetime.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, his older brother Glenn Wallace Briney, and his eldest son William Perry Briney. He leaves behind to remember him with much love, his wife Leslie, his son Robert Paul (Kristine), his daughter, Patricia,11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
During the final difficult stages of Bob's life, numerous care-givers provided loving support and devoted assistance to both Bob and Leslie, helping ease Bob gently through the final chapter of his life. His entire family deeply appreciates Elizabeth Delgado, Lulu Duran, Ana Maria Castillo, Nettie Rubalcava, Giorgina Velasco, and Margarita Hernandez for their understanding and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Congregation Beth Jacob (Fresno), Kings Rehabilitation Center (Hanford), or the charity of your choice.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1701 W. Belmont, Fresno.
