June 19, 1927 - December 19, 2017
Maxine Ruth Zeller Haggmark, born in Selma CA on 19 June 1927 to Gertrude and Vernon Zeller, died on 19 December 2017 . Her mother's Emmerson forebears immigrated from Denmark and her father's ancestors were longtime California residents. Her great-grandfather Jeptha Pascoe and his brother arrived in the state in 1847 as young orphans with the Campbell wagon train party.
Maxine and Carl Astor Haggmark, school classmates, married on 21 December 1945. After WWII they settled in rural Kingsburg and grew plums and grapes. They enjoyed travel and were active members of Concordia Lutheran Church in Kingsburg.
Maxine was predeceased by Astor in 1993 and is survived by her three children: Steven (Nancy Johnson), Edward (Jami) and Tina (Lloyd Pulliam), along with her sister Phyllis Overstreet and grandchildren Anthony Pulliam, Victoria Lewis, Nicholas Haggmark, Lafe Haggmark, Jesse Haggmark and Hannah Haggmark. She was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Diane Pulliam and Maggie Lewis. Over the years she was active in the Kingsburg Art Gallery, the Tuesday Club, the “Out to Lunch Bunch,” the American Legion Auxiliary and Concordia Church Women.
Maxine will be remembered in particular for her lovely paintings, often portraying scenes in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada or Yosemite National Park. She also created paintings of many homes and churches in Kingsburg. The family is grateful for the skilled and loving care Maxine received from all of her home caregivers and the staff of Bethel Lutheran Home.
Funeral service at 11 am Friday, December 29 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Kingsburg.
