Joseph Alfred Maciel
September 8, 1954-April 11, 2018
Joseph Alfred Maciel 63, passed away from heart failure April 11, 2018 following a courageous 7 month battle in the ICU.
Joe was born September 8, 1954 in Hanford California to Joseph G. Maciel and Rosemary Barcellos. He was the oldest of three children.
Joe was raised on his family's dairy, but later in his years, decided to leave the country life and open a sports bar and restaurant named ‘Coaches'. After Coaches closed, he started a successful mortgage company ‘Maciel Mortgage', that is still thriving to this day.
Above all, Joe loved his family. Coming in at a close second would be his love of sports. He coached both football and basketball over a span of 26 years. He started Hanford's NJB program, and took a sixth grade team to a national championship. In football, he retired with an overall winning record and several championships, including undefeated seasons in both youth football (Trojans 1989) and high school freshman football (Bullpups 2009).
Joe was very civic minded. He was involved with both the Jaycees of Hanford, and served as a member and president of the Hanford Sunrise Kiwanis. He was a board member of the Hanford Chamber of Commerce and also formed ‘The Kings County Executive Association' a networking group of local business professionals. He was involved with many charitable events and fundraiser's throughout the years and through his business. Before he passed, he was named ‘Man of the Year' by the Hanford Chamber of Commerce. Joe and his entire family were touched and honored by this. His family will be attending the awards banquet to receive this honor on his behalf in the near future.
In 1997, on Valentine's Day, he married the love of his life, Jena Bogart-Casey. Joe was a wonderful husband and very romantic. He gave his wife Jena an anniversary gift and card on the 14th of every month of every year, for 21 years until his passing. They both came into the marriage with children from previous marriages. This created their own Brady Bunch plus one, totaling 7 kids. As the children grew, they added 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He is survived by his wife Jena, sons Dustin (wife Theresa), Anton (wife Lacretia), Ryan, Matt (wife Brittany) and Chad plus two daughters, Blair (Husband Talon) and daughter Brooke. Also surviving is a brother, John Maciel (wife Mary) and his sister, Mary Leal.
A Celebration of Life' will be held this Friday night at the Fraternal hall beginning at 5 PM. This will be a joyous occasion to join together and celebrate a man who affected so many. We will open the floor to anyone who wishes to speak on their relationship with Joe or perhaps share a memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
