Evangelina “Angie” Castro
January 28th, 1938 - September 6th 2017
Evangelina “Angie” Castro, passed away on September 6th 2017 at the age of 79. Angie was born on January 28th, 1938 in Calexico, CA. and was the daughter of Brijido & Paula Cruz.
Angie worked as the Selma Hot Meals Coordinator at the Sal M. Salazar community center for over 13 years. Angie enjoyed working for the community and the many friendships she created along the way. In addition to her work at the community center, Angie helped to create additional programs that would serve the community such as Welfare Assistance for the poor, Alcohol Abuse programs and work programs for persons convicted of minor crimes. The highlight of her hard work was an award she received from Governor Brown for work she had done with the local community break dancers.
Angie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by her husband Mike Castro Sr., 4 children, Mike Castro Jr. and his wife Alice, Terry Durazo and her husband John, Pete Castro Sr. and his wife Esther, Jesse Castro, Sister Irene Ibarra & her husband Henry, Brother Robert Cruz, 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Angie was preceded in death by her loving daughter Bridget Castro, Brothers Marcy, John & Vincent and Sisters Jennie, Frances & Virginia. Angie will be missed by her loving family and friends.
Angie's life will be celebrated with a Visitation at Thomas-Marcom Funeral Home on Monday September 18th at 5:00pm – 8:00pm & Rosary at 6:00pm
The mass will be held on Tuesday September 19th, 9:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Selma, CA. Burial to follow at Selma Cemetery
