Longtime Hanford resident Elizabeth “Jane” Hammer passed away December 14 from complications of pneumonia. Jane was born to Freal and Pearl Pollock in Lindsay July 23, 1932. She married Donald E. Hammer in 1951 and they moved to Hanford for business in mid 1950's. They raised three children here, Sally (Miguel) Munoz, Russell (Margo) Hammer and Susan Gonzalez. Russell preceded his mother in death on November 27, 2017.
In the mid-sixties returned to college to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. After completing her education she taught elementary school for Hanford Elementary School District for 20 years. Upon retirement she was an active member of Kings County Retired Teachers Association and Friends of the Library.
The bulk of her volunteer work throughout her life serving many positions at the First Presbyterian Church. She had wonderful and supportive groups of friends and freely used her Christian spiritual gifts to minister to many in the community. Jane was known for her love for her family, her gifts of mercy and unconditional love.
Her memories and her character will live on in the life of her grandchildren. Zachary Munoz of Visalia, Alia Munoz of Hanford, Austin Hammer of New York, Spencer Hammer of Sal Luis Obispo, Dane Gonzalez of Sacramento, Dylan Gonzalez and Devin Gonzalez of Hanford.
