Daniel Douglas Anderson of Cherokee, IA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 24, 2018.

Dan was born on the Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune, in Jacksonville, NC to Richard and Marilyn Anderson. The Anderson family moved to Cherokee in 1965. Dan had a love for basketball and his friends called him ‘Swede'. His “claim to fame” in basketball was when he scored the winning point with a few seconds to go, to win the tournament game against Algona.

After graduating high school in 1972 he went to college at Iowa State University. Dan married his high school sweetheart, Marlys Ladwig on August 17, 1974. He graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor Degree in Animal Science. They moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where Dan took a position with Wilson Foods. Dan & Marlys soon became the parents of Brigitte and Danny.

In the winter of 1979 they relocated to Kingsburg, CA where he worked for a rancher, George Jackson, raising sugar beets and cotton. Over time Dan would become the General Manager of Kingsburg Apple Packers. They welcomed another daughter, Chantelle. In his free time he served in church leadership, taught Sunday school, and helped coach the boy's basketball team.

Dan & Marlys moved their family back to Cherokee in 1993, where Dan would take a position as plant manager of R.J. Thomas Mfg.

Heartache would come to the family on November 1st, 1997 when their daughter, Brigitte was taken much too soon in a car accident.

Dan served his community on the School and Rodeo Boards. He was an active member of the Meriden Evangelical Free Church, serving on the Board and teaching Sunday school for many years.

In his spare time he enjoyed raising his calves, meeting his friends for “a good chicken dinner” and cheering his grandkids on in their love of basketball. He didn't miss a chance to watch an Iowa State basketball game, or boasting about their victories. He will be remembered for his leadership, gift of loyal friendship, wit, love for his farm, ISU Cyclones, devotion to his “High School Sweetheart”, children and grandchildren, and an unwavering love for Christ. He didn't leave a stranger without their knowledge of all of the above.

Dan is survived by his wife Marlys of Cherokee, IA; Dan (Melissa) of Cherokee, IA; daughter Chantelle (Jared) Friedman of Sioux Falls, SD; father Richard Anderson of Cherokee, IA; brother Scott (Carol) Anderson of Cherokee, IA; grandchildren Hannah, Maddy, Lauren, and Jacob Friedman of Sioux Falls, SD; and Millie Anderson of Cherokee, IA; his mother-in-law Elaine Hollenbeck of Cherokee, IA and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Brigitte, mother Marilyn Anderson and nephew Tyler Anderson.
