September 30, 1934 - November 24, 2017

Arlin Ray McCullar, 83, died Friday, November 24, 2017, at the VA Community Living Center in Fresno, after a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Ollie (Shropshire) McCullar; his son, Patrick McCullar; daughter, Vickie LaFreniere, her husband Barry; his grandson, Blake LaFreniere; a large extended family; and his many friends. Born in Hanna, OK, he was the eighth of Walter and Winnie McCullar's nine children.

He moved to Fowler at the age of 10, and then to Selma at the age of 14. In 1951 he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Petty Officer, 2nd Class, during the Korean War. After returning to Selma from military service he met his wife, Ollie Shropshire, and they were married in 1956. After serving with the Navy, Ray was a co-owner, with two brothers, of the Star Barber Shop in Selma, and was later employed by Sperry New Holland in Fowler, and Vendo Manufacturing in Fresno. Ray considered his father to have been his best friend, and it was from his father that he gained his passion for his family. He loved nothing better than visiting with his large extended family

A funeral service was held December 2, at Page Funeral Home in Selma. The heartfelt thanks of Ray's family go to the wonderful staff of the Fresno VA Community Living Center, Boon Hospice ward.
