HANFORD – It looks like Justin Mendes has had his fill of being on the Hanford City Council.
Mendes has indicated that he won't be running in 2018 for a second four-year term.
"I have decided to not run again next year," he wrote in an email Thursday. [I've been] spending too much time at [City Council] meetings after normal times and my family needs to come first."
Mendes has expressed frustration during repeated instances where individual council members (sometimes constituting a majority) inexplicably reversed themselves on issues they had already taken a clear stance on.
Mendes has also expressed repeated frustration with decisions of the council that have, in his view, capitulated to narrow interest groups of residents at the expense of what would benefit the city as a whole.
Mendes was elected to the City Council in 2014. He serves in District E, which is located mainly in the southwestern part of Hanford.
