The dog named the World's Ugliest Dog in 2011, the 1.8-pound female Chinese crested-Chihuahua mix owned by Terry Schumacher of Hanford, has died at 15 years old.

"Say a prayer today 4 my YODA...rest in peace 3-10-12," said Schumacher in an email about Yoda's death, which occurred Saturday. "She passed away last night in her sleep. I will miss her funny little ways! But comforted knowing she will be joining my Mom and Dad, who loved her so much! Her memories will live on forever!!!"

Yoda and her owner were swept up in a media frenzy, appearing on national TV after winning the honor at the 23rd annual contest held last June at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma.

Yoda's prizes include a trophy 15 times her size and $1,000. Yoda also received a photo shoot with Kira Stackhouse of Nuena Photography, and she and Schumacher were pampered with an overnight stay in the luxurious Loft Suite at the Sheraton Sonoma County in Petaluma.
