HANFORD — One person is dead in a single-vehicle collision after the driver crashed into a power pole Sunday, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
As a result of the collision, CHP officials said the car became engulfed in flames and the man died at the scene from his injuries.
At around 12:50 p.m., Hanford area CHP officers said they responded to the collision, which occurred in the area of Seventh Avenue, south of Denver Avenue.
CHP officials said it was determined a male possibly out of Reedley was driving a 1997 Honda Civic southbound on Seventh Avenue when, for reasons unknown at this time, the vehicle went off the paved portion of the road and ran off the west shoulder where it collided into a power pole.
At this time, authorities said the collision remains under investigation and it does not appear alcohol or drugs were a factor.
