HANFORD — Hanford Police issued five citations to businesses for selling alcohol to minors during a decoy operation, officials said.
Hanford Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing team, detectives, Kings County Probation and Alcohol Beverage Control conducted a “minor decoy” operation Thursday night at over 35 businesses that sell alcohol in Hanford, authorities said.
During the operation, police said a minor under the age of 20 would walk into a business, pick up an alcoholic beverage and attempt to purchase the alcohol from the clerk at the store.
Some of the clerks asked for identification and some did not, officers said. A couple of the clerks at the businesses found out the decoy was underage and still allowed them to purchase the alcohol.
Of the over 35 businesses, officials said five were in violation of selling alcohol to a minor.
Police said those locations include the Chevron at 1702 W. Lacey Blvd; Kings Gas & Deli at 1201 W. Lacey Blvd.; the 7-11 at 395 N. 11th Ave.; CVS Pharmacy at 574 W. Lacey Blvd.; and Shell Food Mart at 620 W. Seventh St.
Authorities said each business that was in violation was issued a misdemeanor citation and will have to pay a fine to Alcoholic Beverage Control.
