HANFORD — Folks excited to see the improvements made at the Hanford Carnegie Museum will have to wait just a little bit longer.

“We’ve been working at the museum non-stop for the last couple weeks, but due to the additions to enhance the museum, we are having to postpone our grand opening for two weeks,” General Manager Patricia Dickerson said at the Hanford City Council meeting on Tuesday.

The Carnegie was set to have its grand reopening on Saturday, but the date of the festivities has been moved to March 24.

On Wednesday, Dickerson said recent rain has halted restoration work on the museum’s roof. She also said previously unplanned restoration work on the building’s gutters is also going to start.

“[The gutters] are going to look brand new, like they did in 1905 when it first opened,” Dickerson said.

In addition to the roof and gutter restoration, enhancements to the museum include new carpeting, a new display room and a new research room.

The grand reopening on March 24 will start around 10 a.m., with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. There will be live music, light refreshments and raffle drawings.
