Don and Charlene Forsythe of Hanford have been chosen as grand marshal and homecoming queen for the annual Kings County Homecoming celebration May 14-19.
The Forsythes lead the 2012 Homecoming royalty selected this week by the Kings County Homecoming committee. Other event dignitaries will include:
l Honorary grand marshal: Capt. Eric Venema, NAS Lemoore
l Armona king and queen: Doug and Delores Dibble
l Avenal king and queen: Robert and Mary Lambert
l Corcoran king and queen: Jerry and Patty Robertson
l Hanford kings and queen: Jack and Lil Draxler
l Lemoore king and queen: Bob and Ann Badasci
The committee has not yet named the NAS Lemoore Sailor of the Year, the Stratford king and queen or the Santa Rosa Rancheria king and queen. Nominations are being still be sought for the king and queen selections.
The calendar of events has also been tentatively slated. New this year is the kickoff dinner, which will be held May 14 at 5 p.m. at the Hanford Civic Auditorium. The event will start with a no-host bar, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The master of ceremony will be Kings County Sheriff Dave Robinson. The Homecoming grand marshal, queen and area kings and queens will be introduced. Tickets are $15 each and are only available in advance.
The Corcoran event will follow at Christmas Tree Park on May 15, followed by the Avenal celebration on May 16. The Hanford event on May 17 will be at the Thursday Night Market Place, with the Teen Band Showcase to be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium. Lemoore will have a street party on May 18. More details on the local events will be announced in coming weeks.
The annual Kings County Homecoming Parade will be held May 19 in downtown Hanford at 10 a.m., with festivities in Civic Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
