LEMOORE — Lemoore High School student Rachel Camarena has been named a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) after scoring in the top five percent of the more than 1.6 million students that took the PSAT in 2015.
Rachel was one of about 34,000 students nationwide to earn Commended Student status.
“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson from the NMSP. “We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for $2,500 National Merit Scholarships, some of the students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
