Intramural co-ed soccer is in full swing at the Naval Air Station Lemoore (NASL) MWR Gym & Fitness Center’s sports field.

“The teams are self-directed programs governed with MWR Gym Support,” said supervisory recreation specialist Frank Johnson.

Presently, VFA-122 active duty members, VFA-125 active duty members and contractors from VFA-122 have teams in the league and they play 6 on 6 half-field games.

“We feel like with this set up we can have more teams available to play,” said Johnson.

The season is scheduled to run until mid-December, and the league is still welcoming interested parties. The league is open to commands, contractors and dependents. Games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“We want to generate physical readiness and get everyone together in a high energy and competitive environment. We want more commands involved,” said VFA-122 active duty team’s captain Gerardo Quino.

According to Johnson, the gym is preparing for the all-women’s soccer season to begin in the new year. It is tentatively scheduled to begin on Jan. 7.

Interested parties are encouraged to contact Johnson at the NASL MWR Gym & Fitness Center in person, or by calling 559-998-4883.
