Hundreds of military retirees (Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, and Airmen) from throughout Central California participated in Military Retiree Appreciation Day (RAD) last Saturday here at Naval Air Station Lemoore.
Although primarily an informational event, Military Retiree Appreciation Day is also a celebration of the military retiree community, and the strong support provided by the local Lemoore and Hanford communities. It is the camaraderie and knowing they are still connected to the Department of Defense that makes this event so special to retirees. This is our way of giving back and letting military retirees know their service and sacrifice has not been forgotten.
This year, the presentations continued to provide valuable information to our local retirees with regard to healthcare and support. NAS Lemoore continues and will continue to reach out to those who have made sacrifices for our country. I would recognize the Fleet and Family Support Center for once again organizing this military retiree open-house.
The event’s opening ceremony began at 9 a.m. in the base theater. Keynote speaker, Hillary Perez-Godfrey, is a Beneficiary Services and Education Representative for United Health Care Military and Veterans. She provided TRICARE educational briefings and support to beneficiaries in Central California.
Additionally, there were representatives from the Social Security Administration, Medicare, Naval Hospital Lemoore, Personnel Support Detachment Lemoore, Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society, Kings County Behavior Health, CALVET, Navy Lodge, San Joaquin Valley Veterans, Navy Federal Credit Union, Kings County Veterans Service Office, Fresno County Veterans Service Office, Bakersfield National Cemetery, the Vet Center, the Wellness Center, Department of Defense Manpower Data Center and the Armed Forces Retirement Home.
Again, NAS Lemoore gladly welcomes military retirees and thanks them for their service. Our message to our local retirees is simple; if there is anything you need assistance with while you are here, or at any other time, please ask the staff at the Fleet and Family Support Center for help.
