Capt. David James

The holiday season is a time for celebration with friends and family, but for many of us in the Department of Defense, the holidays are spent protecting our country far away from our homes.

The Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps are our country's away team. As a result, many of our loved ones are far away in service to our country. Their selfless service allows us to enjoy our holidays with our families, without fear or oppression. It is their bravery that is the holiday gift, not only to our country, but to the world.

In this holiday season, I want every Sailor and civilian that serves at NAS Lemoore to know that our nation is grateful to you, supports you and is proud of you. I am honored to work with such talented and dedicated people and I hope you never forget that your contributions make this the greatest Navy in the world. You are part of an enterprise that furthers and betters the lives of many. You are part of a team that continues to strive for the shared goal that we remain a place of opportunity and excellence. Thank you for walking point and defending our great nation. Be safe and look out for each other; remember, we are all family.

Service is not limited to deployment. It demands enormous sacrifice from both you and your families. These sacrifices sustain the freedom that dominates the world today. It takes a special person to devote their life to a greater cause than self, a cause such as freedom. I want to thank you for standing among those special people. You and yours will be in my thoughts and prayers over these holidays. I entreat each of you to reflect on the special appreciation America has for you and your family. Be proud of your accomplishments, and share sea stories with moms, dads, siblings, aunts, uncles and old friends.

Most importantly, be safe and enjoy the holiday season to its fullest. Celebrate responsibly. You are important to our Navy family, and we need every one of you to return recharged for the next adventure. Do not let bad judgment ruin the New Year or even worse, your life. Look out for one another, and keep an eye on your shipmates who may be having a difficult time. Also, please keep an eye out for those you will be sharing the roadway with who may not be acting responsibly.

Now, more than ever, the reasons we serve America are extremely apparent as most of us spend quality time with friends and family over the holidays. It is also important that we remember our deployed shipmates, on station around the world vigilantly keeping the watch and ready to answer our Nation's call. As we enjoy the fellowship of loved ones, take a few moments to remember those currently deployed in the name of freedom.

Have a peaceful winter break. I send you my sincere wishes for a joyful holiday season with family, friends and loved ones. I look forward to seeing and working with you in 2018.

Happy holidays and Merry Christmas!,

Captain David James,

Commanding Officer, NAS Lemoore
