Vikings, Bears run in Fresno

The Kingsburg and Selma cross-country team competed Nov. 17 in the Central Section championship meet at Woodward Park in Fresno.

The Kingsburg girls took 19th as a team in Division IV with 490 points. Corcoran was the winning team with 48 points (low team wins in cross-country).

The Vikings had five girls place within the top 131. Sydney Luttrell took 95th in 24:48.8, Kayla Bacon was 97th in 24:59.8, Paige Coddington was 126th in 28:33.0, Anna Ayala placed 130th in 30:29.5 and Nicoll Valdez was 131st in 33:33.9.  

Foothill won the girls D3 with 93 points. Selma’s Mari Vasquez took 31st in 21:40.7, Lilly Flores was 104th in 25:22.0 and the Bears’ Geetika Purwaha was 106th in 25:26.2.

The Selma boys (464 points) took 18th as a team in D-II. Ridgeview won the division with 23 points.

The Bears’ Juan Aragon was 50th in 18:00.0 followed by these teammates: Efrain Vasquez (87, 18:53.4), Carlos Evendano (107, 19:44.5), DJ Perez (108, 19:48.6), Christopher Alatorre (112, 19:54.5) and Ricardo Rubio (122, 20:25.9).

The Kingsburg boys finished 23rd in D-IV with 547 points. Avenal won D-IV with 67 points.

Pacing Kingsburg were Ivan Gonzalez (79th, 18:56.6), Wyatt Ward (80, 18:56.5), Mason Waldner (119, 19:32.1), Adam Garza (121, 19:32.1), Dawson Silva (148, 20:59.5), Jordan Hjelm (164, 22:27.5) and Emmanuel Fabela (166, 22:41.3).

Kingsburg grad first  

Kingsburg High grad Regina Doi of King University took first place in the 101-pound division at the Missouri Valley Open on Nov. 18.

Doi won by technical fall (10-0) over Asia Ray of Wayland Baptist University. 

Games live-streamed  

The Central Section has partnered with the National Federation of High Schools to live-stream numerous post-season sporting events. 

Among them are the CS Division II football finals at 7 p.m. Friday between Dinuba and host Tulare Union and the D-VI finals at 7 p.m. Friday between Rosamond and host Strathmore. 

The offers a monthly pass for $9.95 that enables viewers to see all games it televises. Viewers may also watch past games.

Many games are produced by a member school's broadcast class. NFHS Network hires the announcing crews for regular season and championship events the company produces directly.
