Selma, Kingsburg run in Fresno
The Selma and Kingsburg high school cross-country teams competed in the Rough Rider Invitational on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.
McFarland won the varsity boys small-school title with 51 points and Kingsburg was 25th with 704 points. Nicholas Medearis of Crystal Springs Uplands of Hillsborough was first in the 2.2-mile race in 15:57.1. Kingsburg’s Wyatt Ward was 114th in 19:11.1, followed by teammates Ivan Gonzalez (115, 19:11.1), Adam Garza (168, 20:29.2), Mohammed Al Zamzani (222, 23:02.8), Mason Waldner (223, 2:13.3) and Emmanuel Febela (225, 23:15).
Long Beach Poly won the 3.1-mile varsity boys large-school title with 62 points. Selma was 34th with 940 points. Moises Medrano of Highland won the race in 15:23.9. Selma’s Juan Aragon was 123rd in 17:57.6, followed by teammates Efrain Vasquez (206, 19:03.05), Christopher Alatorre (234, 19:40.4), Ricardo Rubio (250, 20:13.0), Angel Herrera (269, 20:47.5) and Gregory Valdivia (273, 20:57.7).
Jenna Miles of Campolindo won the varsity small-school girls race in 18:09.4. Kingsburg’s Rajvir Rai was the Vikings’ top finisher at 100th with a time of 24:01.1, followed by teammates Kayla Bacon (146, 25:55.1) and Paige Coddington (163, 27:52.7).
Monache won the girls large-school division with 62 points and Selma was 18th with 505 points.
Monache’s Marilou Ruiz crossed first in 19:20.2. Selma’s Alleida Martinez finished 55th in 21:31.7, followed by teammates Mari Vasquez (59, 21:40.6), Aliyah Garcia (73, 21:56.5), Lilly Flores (179, 25:14.2), Geetika Purwaha (194, 25:49.7) and Desiree Rodriguez (207, 28.42.1).
Bear JVs lose to Dinuba
The Dinuba High junior varsity football team defeated Selma 22-7 on Friday.
Dinuba out-gained the Bears 288 to 141.
Chris Rosas led Selma in rushing with 66 yards on four carries. Ulices Raynaga led the Bears in receiving with two catches for 27 yards.
Robert Jauregui had 4 1/2 tackles to pace Selma and Eddie Avalos chipped in with 3 1/2. JC Guerrero, Eddie Avalos and Noah Cedeno had three tackles each.
Selma frosh falls to Dinuba
The Selma freshmen football team lost for the first time this season, 32-0 to Dinuba on Thursday.
Dinuba got three touchdown runs by Daniel Hernandez and a 29-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Galvan to Bryan Ruiz. Hernandez rushed for 97 yards on 14 carries. The Emperor defense scored two safeties.
Ramon Gonzalez led Selma with 57 yards on 11 carries and Jeremiah Herrera carried 16 times for 45 yards.
The Emperors out-gained the Bears 173 to 82 and had 11 first downs to five for Selma.
Jon Ambrose led the Selma defense with five tackles and Brandon Johnson and Gonzalez had three apiece, while Jason San Miguel chipped in with two.
Selma volleyball swept
The Selma High volleyball team fell to Exeter 3-0 on Thursday in a Central Sequoia League match. The scores were 25-11, 25-20, 25-11.
Caitlyn Hansen had five kills and four digs for Selma (11-13 overall, 0-6 CSL), Genesis Rodriguez contributed 12 digs and Caylin Lopez nine assists. Exeter improved to 20-12, 5-1.
