Bear JVs wallop Reedley

The Selma junior varsity football team routed Reedley 54-14 on Friday, Sept. 8.

Eddie Avalos completed 4-of-5 passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Bears. Also for Selma, Chris Rosas rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns on three carries, Arnol Sanchez carried nine times for 81 yards and one TD and Aaron Moreno ran seven times for 60 yards.

Aaron Blancas had a big day receiving for Selma, catching four passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Blancas also had a two-yard TD run. Also scoring touchdowns for Selma was Jacob Valdez on a 2-yard run.

Selma out-gained Reedley 431-133, including a 308-49 edge on the ground. The Bears had 20 first downs to four for the Pirates. Rosas led the Bear defense with four tackles and Jacob Valdez had three.

Selma freshmen defeat Reedley

The Selma High freshman football team defeated Reedley 34-7 on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Joseph Ramirez ran for touchdowns of two and one yards and threw a 20-yard TD pass to Jericho Falcon. Selma also got a 31-yard TD run from Jeremiah Herrera and a seven-yard TD run by Ramon Gonzalez.

Selma out-gained Reedley 326-127. Herrera rushed for 143 yards and one score on 16 carries. Josh Nunez and Jason San Miguel led the Bears with three tackles each.

Kingsburg third

The Kingsburg High girls golf team finished third in a match on Thursday, Sept. 7 at Valley Oaks Golf Course.

Golden West finished with a 255, Monache shot a 310 and Kingsburg 319. Morgan Waldern led Kingsburg with a 50.

Bear golfers fall to Reedley

The Selma High girls golf team lost to Reedley 81-60 on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Junior Sammy Collins scored 19 points and freshman Morgan Oehlschlaeger had 17 for the Bears, using the stableford scoring system.  

Selma volleyball wins twice  

The Selma High volleyball team defeated Orange Cove 3-2 on Sept. 5. The scores were 25-10, 20-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-9.

Caitlyn Hansen led the Bears with 19 kills and 14 digs. Also for Selma, Genesis Rodriguez had 30 digs, Caylin Lopez 16 assists and Mia Salinas 11 assists.

The Bears also defeated Washington Union 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 7. The scores were 25-19, 25-23, 25-19. 

Kingsburg girls polo routs Memorial

The Kingsburg girls water polo team topped San Joaquin Memorial 15-0 on Sept. 5.

The Vikings were led by Mikayla Vierra (five goals, two assists), Jessica Burch (one goal), Megan Buendia (one goal, two steals), Evan Yakligian (three goals, two assists), Bridgette Garcia (three goals, three steals), Tara Fry (one goal, one assist), Jillian Gipson (one goal, one steal), Sofia Righetti (five steals, one assist), Bianca Valenzuela (one assist) and Brighton Kinney (four assists). 

Viking volleyball subdues Woodlake

The Kingburg volleyball team downed Woodlake 3-0 on Sept. 5. The scores were 25-10, 25-13, 25-23. 

Leading the Vikings were: Karen Rodriguez (nine kills, six digs), Karlee Hodges (four digs), Erin Bishop (one ace, four digs, 30 assists), Kate Jackson (six digs), Olivia Doyle (six kills, two blocks), Maci Morton (one kill), Kaitlyn Freeman (10 kills, two digs), Jennah Torres (nine kills, eight digs, two aces), Morgan Johnson (five digs), Jessi Swenning (two aces, nine kills, five blocks), Peyton Woods (two kills, one dig), Kassidy Wilson (two aces, six kills, four blocks, two digs and 20 assists) and Anika Protzmann (three aces, including the match-winner and five digs).

Selma boys polo loses to Hanford 

The Selma boys water polo team has gotten off to a tough start in 2017. The Bears dropped their first six matches, including a 25-5 loss to Hanford on Monday, Sept. 4.
