KINGSBURG – Since many Kingsburg residents can trace their heritage to Sweden, an unusual opportunity to travel there and explore their roots has surfaced.

Kingsburg Mayor Michelle Roman was contacted by the producers of a Swedish reality show, “Allt för Sverige – Great Swedish Adventure” to see if any locals were interested in applying.

“I think this would be a fun opportunity for a family from Kingsburg to learn more about their Swedish roots,” Roman said. “I know we still have many families that originally emigrated from Sweden and to have a TV program in Sweden let them trace their roots would make for an interesting story.”

“Allt för Sverige” is accepting applications for season eight and the deadline is Feb. 7.

Meter Television is conducting a nationwide search for fun, outgoing and adventurous Americans with Swedish ancestry who have a burning desire to find their roots and see their motherland. Chosen participants will compete in extreme cultural challenges to discover their rich and fascinating roots while trying to win the grand prize of meeting their own Swedish relatives.

“Allt för Sverige” is shot and broadcast in Sweden and potentially other countries as well.

Residents can apply at www.greatswedishadventure.com or get in touch with producer Sofia Eng at sofia.eng@meter.tv, by calling (310) 500-8350 or by mail at 1422 Hi Point St., Ste. 104, Los Angeles, CA 90035.

To apply, residents also need to fill out an online questionnaire about their Swedish cultural heritage.

“The more information you provide on every question the better,” their website states. “One requirement is that you can never have visit Sweden before.”

There are also instructions on how to submit a two-minute video of yourself. You can upload the video through YouTube or make one with your iPhone.

“Just be yourself and speak from your heart,” the instructions said.

Applicants will need to provide some basic information, tell why their Swedish heritage is so important and why they should be picked for the show.

The show will be filmed from May through June of 2018, thus applicants would need to be available for a maximum of six weeks of shooting. Only four finalists stay for the entire period. If you are selected for the next round, you will receive more information about the shooting process.

The series has won an Emmy Award and the Kristallen, which is the Swedish version of the Golden Globe.
