KINGSBURG — A new restaurant is set to open soon in the old Burger King building on Sierra Street.
Jose Almanza is aiming to open his new restaurant, BLD Fresh, at the location this October after the sale of the building went through last month. The restaurant will serve American food for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.
“I’m very excited and optimistic,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity.”
Almanza is a Clovis resident who has worked 30 years as a franchisee for a large restaurant chain. He declined to say what company he worked for. After helping running restaurants for this company all those years, he said he decided in February to branch out and start his own company, BLD Food, Inc.
“I felt more secure in my career at that point and I wanted to be able to have full control of my own company,” he said.
Almanza said he was looking at affordable property across the state when he came across Kingsburg. When he visited the town earlier this year, he said that he really liked the look and feel of the town and felt the location of the restaurant would be good.
“I saw that it was a nice city to live in and do business, and the [property] is close to the freeway,” he said.
Now, Almanza is in the process of moving to Kingsburg and will run the restaurant with the help of his wife and older children. He is looking to hire more than a dozen employees, ranging from cooks to cashiers and waiters.
Almanza said he is currently working on remodeling the building and making fixes as needed. Furniture will come in closer to opening.
Almanza said he hopes to open other locations in the Valley in the near future.
“I want to open others in the next couple years, but we’ll see how this one goes,” he said.
