A Hanford man was killed in a car accident just outside of Selma on Sept. 11.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Javier Torrez Galvan was walking in the eastbound lane of Mountain View Avenue west of Van Horn Avenue at around 8:54 p.m. when he was hit by a 2008 Volvo big rig heading eastbound on Mountain View.

According to the department, the man was wearing dark clothing and the Volvo driver didn’t see him in time to avoid hitting him. The man was found dead on the south shoulder of the road.

The CHP said the semi driver, identified as 37-year-old Riverdale man Javier Sierra, initially left the scene after hitting the man but was later told by his employer to return and help law enforcement with the investigation.

Sierra was arrested for hit-and-run and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
