KINGSBURG – Families interested in hosting an exchange student may contact Michelle Pattillo with the non-profit World Link organization.
“Our students are here on scholarship through the State Department. They are required to be involved in school, their community, to volunteer, share their culture and most importantly to become a member of your family,” Pattillo said.
Exchange students have been placed at public high schools throughout the area such as in Selma, Fowler, Kingsburg, Dinuba, Visalia, Tulare, Reedley, Hanford, Lemoore, Porterville, Exeter and Woodlake.
“I really am in need of families in Kingsburg to host one of our wonderful students,” she said.
Students will have their own medical, dental, and vision coverage, a $125 monthly stipend to help with their personal expenses and allowances that cover all school registration fees such as ASB and yearbook expenses. They will also have a $300 allowance to help cover school supplies and extra-curricular activity costs.
Host families are required to provide a regular sized bed, meals and reasonable transportation. Students may share a bedroom, but must have their own bed.
Students arrive in August and here for the school year. Families may select the gender of the student they host and read profiles to find a student that would be a good fit with their family, Pattillo said.
Pattillo is available at 368-9470.
