LEMOORE - Who would have thought the Central Valley's heat would be the catalyst for a project eight years in the making?

Lemoore resident, Jason R. Koivu, found his motivation through the heat. “It’s so dang hot here that spending a lot of time writing indoors with the A/C just makes sense! I was able to finish this novel in no time.”

Originally from Massachusetts, Koivu graduated with an English degree from Fitchburg State College and immediately moved to Los Angeles to work in the movie industry. He and his wife then moved to the Santa Barbara area. “That’s were the germ of an idea for this series first took hold and I began putting word to paper,” said Koivu in a September press release.

The novel, "Beyond Barlow," is the first in an upcoming series, following the adventures of Ford Barlow, a young man banished from his home and clansmen. After a tragedy forces him into joining a band of thieving boys, his new found home and companions are forced through a magical forest into the arms of unknown dangers.

Koivu has signed a contract with Texas-based publisher Black Rose Writing to "Beyond Barlow" for release on Sept. 14 and is available through the publisher and Amazon.com.
