Kings Symphony Orchestra receives grant

MODESTO - The Save Mart Companies C.A.R.E.S. Foundation announced in a press release on Tuesday, six organizations throughout California and Northern Nevada received grants, including the Kings Symphony Orchestra. The Symphony received $ 4,000 from the grant foundation. "Our grant opens the door for student musicians to practice and perform with seasoned professionals. The community then enjoys four concerts each season because of such grants." stated in the press release.


Midnite Run in concert: Saturday, 5 p.m., Laton Rodeo Grounds, 6345 E. Nares Ave., Laton. Come out for a great concert and help raise money for the American Cancer Society. KFUN 92.5 FM is hosting Midnite Run, a Journey tribute band, on the lawn of the Laton Rodeo grounds, vendors, food and drinks. Tickets: $15 general at the gate.


HOW to hold monthly dinner: Deadline for RSVP Tuesday, for the 6 p.m. event at the Hanford Fraternal Hall, 1015 N. 10th Ave., Hanford. Helping One Woman's Hanford branch will meet Oct. 16, at the Fraternal Hall. Attendees are welcome to bring a dessert or an item for the opportunity drawing. Moonlight Margarita Madness: Oct. 14, 6-10 p.m., Lemoore Youth Sports Complex, 500 N. 19th Ave., Lemoore. Join Lemoore Youth Sports Foundation as they host a margarita and taco night fundraiser to repave the parking lot of the sports complex. Drinks, dancing, live music and tacos, $40 per person for this 21 and over event. Purchase tickets online at or from Family Eye Care and Best Buy Market in Lemoore. 

Octoberfest Craft Beer festival: Oct. 14, 2-6 p.m., Civic Park, 400 N. Douty St., Hanford. Join Hanford Police K9 Foundation as they host the inaugural Octoberfest Beer festival. The goal is to raise money for Hanford's Police K9 Foundation and bring the community and officers together in a relaxed atmosphere. This is a 21 and over event. Donations for annual yard sale: Oct. 14 final day for donations, 8-11 a.m., Hanford Elks Lodge, 506 N. Douty St., Hanford. The Hanford Elks #1259 are now accepting donations of gently used items to be sold at the annual yard sale in November to benefit local charities. Information: Call Tito at 940-4596. 

Cabrillo Club Enchilada sale: Deadline to order Oct. 16. The Kings County Cabrillo Club #9 will hold their annual Enchilada sale. Orders consist of two large beef or cheese enchiladas per $6 tray for take-out only. Pick-up is from 3-6 p.m., Oct. 20, at the Hanford Fraternal Hall, 1015 N. 10th Ave., Hanford. Knights of Columbus annual pancake breakfast - Lemoore: Oct. 22, 7 a.m. to noon., O'Doherty Hall, MIQ School, 884 N. Lemoore Ave. Hosted by Msgr. John O'Friel's Knights of Columbus Council. Tickets are available for purchase at St. Peter's Church Office, MIQ School Office and from any Knights of Columbus member. Tickets cost $8 for adults and children five and under are free.

Salvation Army food pantry looking for donations: The Salvation Army is accepting donations for the food pantry that serves the Kings County area. Donations of non-perishables, diapers, baby food and bottle water can be brought to The Salvation Army, 380 E. Ivy St., Hanford, Monday through Friday 8:30-11:30 a.m., questions call 582-4434.

God's Bread Box - Lemoore: Christ Church Anglican Mission, 740 N. 19th Ave., Lemoore. God's Bread Box is a non-profit organization that passes out food to the people in the Lemoore area who are in need of that extra little help. The group welcomes all volunteers to help on the fourth Friday of the month from 2-4 p.m. to package the food stuffs and on fourth Saturday of the month from 8:30-11 a.m. to distribute the food.
