Young clerk stabbed in presumed Hanford gang attack

A 19-year-old grocery store clerk was stabbed in south Hanford as he collected shopping carts in the store’s parking lot Wednesday evening.

Miguel Flores stumbled to the front entrance of R-N Market at 6:30 p.m., bleeding from a single stab wound to the chest. Other store employees saw his condition and immediately called 911, police Lt. Greg Freiner said.

“We’re looking at the possibility of two suspects, both male,” Freiner said this morning. “We don’t have a lot of details on them at this time, but one of them was wearing red.”

" When you have to worry about getting stabbed in the grocery store parking lot things have become pretty bad. This should be the final straw that gets the Kings County Sheriffs office and the Hanford PD mobilized. We should clean sweep Kings County of this gang rubbish and/or at least push them back to Fresno where they came from. "

" I'm going to go way out on a limb here and guess that the suspects are probably clean cut, wearing white buttoned down shirts and ties. They may have been wearing bike helmets too.

Oh wait, nevermind. I was describing the good kids who never seem to pop up in these stories and were raised well by their parents. "

" The correlation between poverty in America and gang violence is very real. Kings county is one of the poorest counties in California.Gang violence will continue to occur especially in the south side where the poverty is worse untill people realize that simply denouncing those people will not solve anything. It is best to invest in the poor communities so we can break the cycle of violence. "

" gang activity will never stop...its so stupid. no one cares what part of california your from so stop announcing it on fences or wearing it. its time to grow up. "

" life is made up of CHOICES you either choose to be good or you choose to be bad. if your good no amount of poverty could or should make you harm another human being, and if your bad its apparent any excuse will do...just a thought. "

" CSUFAlumni is right again!

Get rid of poverty and there will be no crime!

Take from citizens who have earned something and give it to all poor people who really deserve it.

Its their right to receive something they didn't earn.

Why didn't I think of that? "

" You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink as the saying goes. There are and have been numerous programs, Federal, State and in many cases Local to get persons off of welfare, into job experience programs and free education. With many of these persons they will not give the time or effort to get ahead by devoting the time and effort to achieve these goals. I have been around over six decades and many of these same persons and their extended family's stay in the same rut. As I have mentioned before, we have the RICHEST POOR in the world. The means of leaving the life cycle of poverty and crime are already in place. Those who do not access it are where they wish to be in most cases. "

jethro wrote on Nov 9, 2009 5:55 PM:

" CSUFAlumni... although poverty can lead a person to do things they may not do otherwise, your overall liberal theory doesnt hold water. For example, how do you explain all the crime the continues at the Tachi Reservation? Furthermore, as it's been eluded to already, social programs have been around for generations now and have made no difference. Lets call a spade a spade, it all starts simply with morals and ethics. If a family does not instill right from wrong in their children they will end up a loser, and will in turn raise a loser themselves... it doesnt take a village to raise a child, just a responsible parent. And... if you cant raise a child properly, then dont have one! "

" some of these comments make me sick. where does it say that the people involved were poor? CSUF sounds like you have all the answers, get off your high horse. just because you live on the south side doesnt make you poor or a gangster. this town and county are infested with gangs, there are no borders. the post say this happened because of poverty. from what i read, he had a job "

cornbread wrote on Nov 12, 2009 1:41 PM:

" I agree with a lot of these comments. In order to help this community, people should get more involved with the Hanford Police/Sheriff's Dept. to help control this situation. Hanford used to be small & clean till people from all over started moving here. Some of these people are moving here from Fresno & L.A. making Hanford bad. If you're originally from Fresno or L.A., stay there. Poverty doesn't make you commit a crime, your stupid choices make you commit a crime. You have a choice to do good/bad. He chose to do bad because some parents these days don't instill behavior in their kids & just don't care to. Some of them don't work & rather live off the hard working to support them. You can choose to work & get on your own two feet & set the example for your kids. If girls would stop having kids just for welfare money, there would be no struggles & spend time w/kids. Some have more than they can handle & stay home telling kids to get out of the house. You can choose to move out of the southside or stay. I moved & improved. "

Angie wrote on Nov 13, 2009 11:39 AM:

" Ok, what does the southside have to do with this? I live on the south side- I'm not on welfare, I'm not a gangbanger, my kids do not run around all hours of the night. There's scanless people all over this city not just in the southside.
Cornbread if you think Hanford was so clean cut before "outsiders" moved here you are either blind or a liar. There are things that went on and still go on in the higher ranks of people who run this city that make them WORSE than any gangbanger Hanford has. Some of you chosen few know what I mean but that's a hush hush taboo subject no one talks about much less acknowledge. "
