" Thank Goodness that justice might prevail after all for Mr. Reynolds. I pray for him daily and that this town truly understands someday that they absolutely reap what they sow.
Mr. Reynolds' deserves a retirement; free from the shoulder rubbing backlash so prevalent in this town.
Let's not forget that he gave the city 16 years, raised a great family in this town and gave alot of himself to make a better Hanford. I often wonder what truly is behind all this?
I worked by and with a City Clerk for years, and I can tell you that firm records are kept on "handed out materials" to the Council. Seems a good talk with the Clerk and observance of internal records and packets would have put this issue to rest on exactly what the Council did or DID not receive? How do things get this far out of hand when there are firm steps in place? I would have come out of my chair if I had given a packet that I knew had a certain handout in it that others were saying they didn't receive. I'm merely wondering? "

" I have said from the very beginning that the City Council was behind this entire witch hunt and this confirms it. I feel they are being directed behind the scenes by someone who has the most to gain from it. Your new City Attorney Bob Dowd, this smells and smacks of his tactics and may if finally come out and the good community of Hanford see what is behind this frivolous law suit. Each of those City Council Members if this is true lied to the Grand Jury while under oath, what does that tell ya about their character?
But during the grand jury investigation, city council members said they had never received such a copy. Reynolds' former subordinates have testified in court that documents suggest city council members were indeed given the copy as part of city council orientation materials when they were first elected.
Mr. Nuttall will you also be handling the wrongful arrest and prosecution trial as well? Jan you hang in there if you are put on trial and your fellow citizens are chosen as the jury this will be a cake walk for you. The CC 0 JR 1 "

" Just some observations:
1. Are we to believe that each city counsel member separately lied under oath to the grand jury without fear of being caught in that lie? Are they that ignorant of the consequences of perjury?
2. If there are firm records kept on "handed out materials" - as one poster said above - why wasn't this proven to the DA and shown to each council member to jog their memory? Again, I cannot believe that the parties involved chose to bring a false prosecution with perjury and conspiracy enhancements when a defense can be so obviously established.
3. Golden handshakes and excessive severance packages are personally distasteful to most hardworking people. Something is wrong after 16 years of supposed successful employment here: "when he was pressured into retirement in 2005."
What could suddenly have happened? Could hard feelings on either side spur people to lie, committing perjury and conspiracy along the way?
Is Mr. Reynolds truly blameless around this issue?

One of these people being persecuted, that is right, not prosecuted, needs to turn around and sue the City Council, individually and personally as well as the City of Hanford. Until this happens, the Joker rules the town, and the Jesters are called Council Members.
The innocent have to run up thousands of dollars trying to prove they are innocent, only to have to plead "no contest" because they have to get on with their lives and can not afford 100,000s of thousands of $$$ for this charade. "

" Alejandro,
The City Council is like a bunch of little kids fibbing to cover their own butts. The problem with people who lie, is they can't remember after a while which is truth and which is the lie. You can't help but ask yourself why the City Council rarely disagrees on anthing they all vote in specific patterns and are agreeable on every issue that comes before them. Do you have any idea how unusual this is for a City Council to perform in this manner. We might as well have one City Council member calling all the shots with their complacency in government. I've said it time and time again and I'll once more contest it is Malfeasance, we put them there to do a specific job and they continue to not listen to the voting public who put them there, to begin with and it is time they were all removed from their throwns and cast aside like the rubbish they are and have turned out to be. What primary purpose does any of them serve other than each other? That is not the job of the City Council "

However, I truly believe that all of our city council members have been in office too long or shouldnt have been put there in the first place. There truly is a lot to be said for change and I think the City of Hanford is finally ready to realize that and possibly work toward that end. Lets hope that someone worthwhile will run against our current members and bring about good changes. "

It's always easy to pass judgement when you don't have a clue what the facts really are...get the facts and then at least make an educated comment. "

" I don't know Calhoun or Reynolds. I think I have a modicum of common sense and a strong sense of fairness. Applying that to this case: assuming that Reynolds did in fact include his contract in a packet to council members when they came aboard, was Reynolds' behavior above board when he didn't mention the original contract in the context of the new severence package that was being negotiated? I don't think so.
But if I understand this case correctly, Reynolds is being prosecuted for saying to the grand jury that he did make the council members aware of the severence package in his contract. Again, assuming that he did provide the contract to new council members way back when, technically he did make the council members aware. Was there some underhanded behavior on Reynolds' part? It would seem so. Should he be prosecuted? It doesn't seem so.
If I'm not considering some things, please let me know.
Not so coincidentally, I posted a similar comment regarding the other City Manager's prosecution. . Is the case load in the DA'soffice so slow that they need to pursue these marginal cases? "

" I miss the "bad" ole days of Jan Reynolds. Look at what we have now. A "new" regime. Chin, Dowd and Meisenheimer taking the place of Buford, Noland and Reynolds. Nothing's changed, Noland left before the council could ruin his reputation, Dowd nipping at his heels to get out of the way, Gary shuffling and bumbling to the council saying, oh yeah, I won't be doing stuff like Jan did, I promise. Haglund is gone, Lindsay is hanging in there, checking faxes and spilling the beans at every turn so she doesn't get cut from the team. And lastly, although it's time, (a long time ago it was time) Marcie has announced her "retirement" from public service. So, who will her replacement be? One of the "players" of the Chin Dream Team? Gosh, I hope not, GIMME JAN BACK! At least I knew who he was and what patriarcial manner he ran that council. The council has NO DIRECTION, NO LEADERSHIP AND NO ETHIC now and it scares me, AS IT SHOULD SCARE YOU TOO. "
